Requirements to Baptize at Most Blessed Trinity Parish

1.BEFORE MAKING PLANS FOR THE DATE OF BAPTISM, parents and sponsors must attend Pre-Baptismal Formation.

  • a. Registration for Pre-Baptismal Formation is requested in person and in advance at the parish office by either the father or mother of the child to be baptized.

  • b. Pre-baptismal formation is three (3) hours long and is held every 3rd Sunday of the month from 10:30-1:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 450 Keller Ave. in Waukegan. The pre-baptismal formation is valid for one (1) year.

  • c. The talk is for parents and godparents only, NO CHILDREN ARE ALLOWED in the Pre-Baptismal class.

    2.AFTER PRE-BAPTISMAL FORMATION we ask that you come to the parish office at least one week prior to the date you plan to be baptized with the following documents:

    • The registration form filled out with all the child's information,

    • Copy of the child's birth certificate issued by the COURT (The Archdiocese of Chicago requires that you submit a photocopy of the birth certificate of the child to be baptized so that both the information on the baptism and the birth certificate match and so that there are no problems in the future).

    • Parent/Godparent class attendance certificates (If the parent will not be present on the day of the baptism, please bring a notarized letter stating that you are responsible for baptizing your child).

    • The cost of the baptism is $70, which must be paid at the time of registration for the class. If you are only registering to attend the talk and baptize and will be a sponsor outside of our parish, the class costs $10 per person. There are no refunds in both cases.

    • IF YOU DO NOT BRING THESE DOCUMENTS, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESERVE THE BAPTISM DATE. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

    3. Baptisms are on Saturdays (with some exceptions, there are no baptisms during Lent). Baptism dates must be reserved at least one week in advance.

    4. The godparents must be Catholics, over 18 years of age, must have received the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist), lead a life consistent with the Catholic faith and with the mission to be assumed. The tradition is to have two godparents, but only one is necessary, in case there are two, they must be a man and a woman (canon law 873). They cannot be affected by a canonical penalty. Examples: living in a common-law marriage or civil marriage. If you live with your partner, you must be married in Christ by the Catholic Church.

    5.Children who are 7 years of age or older must attend one year of catechesis in order to be baptized.

    6. If the godparents live in a different city, they may attend the Pre-Baptismal Formation at the parish they attend and bring proof of attendance. If the parents are the ones who live in a different city, they can do the same, but they must also bring a permission slip from their parish indicating that they can baptize at Most Blessed Trinity Parish.

    7.The deadline for registration is Thursday (12:00 p.m.) prior to the pre-baptismal class.

Requisitos para bautizar en Santísima Trinida

  • 1. ANTES DE HACER PLANES PARA LA FECHA DE BAUTISMO, padres y padrinos deben asistir a la Formación Pre-Bautismal.

    • Se pide que se registren para la Formación Pre-Bautismal en persona y con anticipación en la oficina parroquial ya sea el papá o la mamá del niño que se va a bautizar.

    • La formación pre-bautismal tiene una duración de tres (3) horas y se lleva a cabo cada 3er.Domingo del mes de 2:30-5:30 p.m en la Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción, 508 Grand Ave. en Waukegan. La formación pre-bautismal es válida por un (1) año.

    • La plática solo es para padres y padrinos, NO SE PERMITEN NIÑOS en la clase Pre-Bautismal.

    2. DESPUÉS DE LA FORMACIÓN PRE-BAUTISMAL le pedimos que pase a la oficina parroquial por lo menos una semana antes de la fecha de la cual planea bautizar con los siguientes documentos:

    • La forma de registro llena con todos los datos del niño(a),

    • Copia del acta de nacimiento del niño(a), expedida por la CORTE. (Es requisito de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago que entreguen fotocopia del acta de nacimiento del niño/a que se va a bautizar para que tanto la información del bautismo como la del acta de nacimiento coincidan y no tengan problemas en el futuro).

    • Certificados de asistencia a la clase de padres y padrinos. (Sí el padre o la madre no estará presente el día del bautismo, por favor traiga una carta notariada indicando que usted es responsable de bautizar a su hijo)

    • El Costo del bautismo es de $70 dólares, los cuales tendrían que ser pagados al momento del registro a clase. Si solamente se registrara para atender a la charla y bautiza y será padrino fuera de nuestra parroquia, la clase tiene un costo de $10 dólares por persona. No hay reembolso en ambos casos.

    • SÍ NO TRAE ESTOS DOCUMENTOS NO PODRÁ RESERVAR LA FECHA DE BAUTISMO. NO HABRÁ EXCEPCIONES.

    3. Los bautismos son los días sábados (con algunas excepciones. No hay bautismos durante la Cuaresma). La fecha del bautismo se tiene que reservar por lo menos con una semana de anticipación.

    4. Los padrinos deben ser católicos, mayores de 18 años, deben haber recibido los Sacramentos de Iniciación Cristiana (Bautismo, Confirmación, Eucaristía), llevar una vida congruente con la fe católica y con la misión que va a asumir. La tradición es tener dos padrinos, pero solo uno es necesario, en caso de ser dos deben de ser un hombre y una mujer (ley canónica 873). No pueden estar afectados por una pena canónica. Ejemplos, vivir en unión libre, o casado(a) por lo civil. Si vive con su pareja, estar casado(a) en Cristo por la Iglesia Católica.

    5. Los niños/as que tengan 7 años de edad o mayores, tienen que asistir a un año de catequesis para que puedan ser bautizados/as.

    6. Sí los padrinos viven en diferente ciudad, pueden asistir a la Formación Pre-Bautismal en la parroquia a la que asisten y traer el comprobante. Sí los padres son los que viven en diferente ciudad pueden hacer lo mismo, pero también deben traer un permiso de su parroquia indicando que pueden bautizar en la Parroquia Santísima Trinidad.

    7. El jueves (12:00pm) previo a la clase prebautismal es la fecha límite para su registro.
